Oil refinery Brod operates in accordance with requirements of environmental permit issued by Ministry of spatial planning, construction and environment protection of government of the Republic of Srpska. Environment  protection measures applied by the Refinery are defined by environmental permit and correspond environment protection requirements.

The municipality of Brod was chosen for construction of the Oil refinery due to its location. Access to Sava river which is navigable from the town of Sisak to its confluence in the Danube leading to the Black Sea, as well as access to railway which connected it with the European countries and the narrow-gauge railway which connected it with the rest of Bosnia made location suitable for refinery. 

Production capacity of Oil refinery Brod is such that it can satisfy demand of domestic market in full. Refinery operation has significantly benefited quality as well as prices of petroleum products sold in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
